Question 1: Last year, Melrose conducted a DEI climate study with a focus on racial justice.

High-level results indicated:

Black people had lower agreement than white people that they:

• feel a sense of belonging in Melrose

• feel that they can be their full, authentic self in Melrose

• feel comfortable interacting with Melrose institutions, especially City Hall (including the mayor’s office, clerk, building department and treasurer), the Melrose Public Schools, and the Melrose Housing Authority.

We have federal, state, and now local data indicating these disparities. What are your plans for addressing and working to resolve these disparities in experiences for people of color in Melrose? Please be specific i.e. please speak to programs, policies, and budgets.
